SAWEAs Educational EnergyDRIVE
Based on the last two EnergyDRIVE’s fantastic support, and positive outcomes, Durban University of Technology (DUT) and the South African Wind Energy Association (SAWEA) will embark on another three weeks of educational road-trip with the EnergyDRIVE (from 01 September to 23 September 2022). The journey will start in the Eastern Cape visiting several schools, and head down to the Western Cape and Northern Cape visiting schools and Wind Farms as well as Solar Farms, along the route.
Educational EnergyDRIVE 2021
The EnergyDRIVE is a project that was launched by Durban University of Technology (DUT) and its partners way back in 2016. The aim of the initiative is to raise awareness about climate change and renewable energy. DUT Mobile Unit includes installed features such as a solar roof structure, wind turbine mounting system, biogas digester, photovoltaic panel display unit as well as a solar hot water display unit. The walls of the container are occupied by a battery bank, photovoltaic components, TV and display cupboards. The mobility of this unit makes it ideal to reach stakeholders who are inaccessible and do not have resources to get information about these technologies. The container also features interactive demonstration models, alternative solar energy display wall units, and an energy efficiency unit.
The EnergyDRIVE will promote renewables as alternative sources of energy to fossil fuels. This initiative further aims to promote the green economy and sustainable energy solutions by improving the understanding of climate change related issues and the different renewable energy resources. The interactive nature of the mobile unit will be used to demonstrate to the learners how natural renewable energy technologies can be used, to highlight the advantages of renewable energy, to get children interested in alternative energy and to promote skills training courses in green energy.
